This paper reports on an empirical study of 1,114 popular and 1,114 unpopular Minecraft mods from the CurseForge mod distribution platform, one of the largest distribution platforms for Minecraft mods. There exist several examples of games with an extremely active and successful modding community, with the Minecraft game being one of the most notable ones. One way to balance the increasing gamer expectation and development stress is to build an active modding community around the game. It is becoming increasingly difficult for game developers to manage the cost of developing a game, while meeting the high expectations of gamers. This has helped in refining the game and further longer term testing will take place with the target age group. The game has been tested in a school situation on children of all levels with varying results. Both have enabled us to overcome pitfalls in our approach to designing the game that will give pointers to others wishing to make learning outcome specific mods. We have piloted the game with a number of children, without experience in using Minecraft as a game, as well as those with extensive experience. ![]() The solution is quite creative and uses game component development that is familiar to players of Minecraft. The design practice has highlighted a number of issues that are of value when using Minecraft to teach any subject specifically when trying to create mods. Minecraft is very attractive for this design as a large proportion of children are familiar with the basic gameplay, the gameplay is attractive to both males and females and with the use of mods learning outcome specific tools can be created. ![]() This paper outlines the way in which we have been using a Minecraft mod to create a collaborative game for teaching maths to UK primary school children (age 7 9). It is thus possible to check the design fully before launch, including developing server based applications. The authors of Minecraft make the full source code available for download to enable off line development and testing. Minecraft mods can be developed freely with a system development kit (SDK) that can be downloaded. This is where the concept of developing mods becomes very valuable. ![]() However, to get the players to engage with more abstract learning concepts can be quite challenging. The creator mode is most useful in developing ideas for game play. The tool has been observed to attract children in their exploration of the game environments. Game components can be linked together allowing their effect to be experimented with easily and thus offering great potential for investigating childrens use of the tool in educational settings. The use of Minecraft as a tool for teaching has become increasingly popular recently. ![]() This unit offers a second full four-piece bathroom as well as in-suite laundry. Going through the tunnel will take you to the northeast, to the Myriad Fortress, where the “good guys” are. If you take the Motor Bridge instead, you’ll go northwest, to the Jagni Fortress, aka the “bad guys” (but not the worst, that honor arguably goes to Lotus). If you’ve been making mostly Light choices up until this point, Out-Of-Date will recommend you talk to the Myriad sifu otherwise, he’ll tell you to seek out the Jagni sifu. ▼Article Continues Below▼ Biomutant Tribes – Talk to Jagni or Myriad Sifu The choice is ultimately up to you, though. Ahead of the release of Biomutant later this month, the developers have revealed just how long the game will take to complete. Talking to the Myriad or Jagni Sifu in Biomutant lets you join either of the tribes, depending on what moral code you want to follow. After years of silence surrounding Biomutant, THQ Nordic and Experiment 101 are now releasing a flurry of new information and reveals, to further enhance fan excitement for the upcoming action RPG. If you join the Jagni, you’ll have an easier time farming Dark Points, and you’ll get the Jagni armor over time, as well as their tribe weapon. On top of that, other Dark-aligned tribes will surrender to you without a fight, if you so choose. On the other hand, siding with Myriad makes accruing Light Points simpler, grants you the Myriad armor and weapon, and other Light tribes won’t fight you. The world of BIOMUTANT is a world without humans in the picture. Side note: you’ll get both tribe weapons no matter what, obtaining the opposing camp’s armament after defeating them. Due to some sort of apocalyptical event, the world is a bit of a wasteland and the animals have evolved and mutated into weird, anthropomorphic creatures. Needless to say, since choosing one of these tribes makes getting their respective points easier, this can affect which ending you’ll get. That's everything you need to know about the way Biomutant endings work, but be sure to check out our other Biomutant guides for more tips and tricks. After all, the Myriad and Jagni tribes have completely opposite goals, as you can see in the screenshots below. How you interact with the tribes, NPCs, and even your conscience will have no major influence on the ending. ![]() The same goes for other choices throughout the game. My advice is to just choose what you want, as the tribe choices have very little effect on the way Biomutant ends anyway. Allying with light tribes means you can imprison or reconcile with opposing tribes, while allying with dark tribes means you naturally can’t be as forgiving. The two primary endings have minor variations depending on how you deal with the opposing tribes’ Sifus, or chiefs. Dark-aligned tribes kept telling me they knew I was allied with a rival.Įither way, changing tribes is a pain because you have to re-conquer the tribes you’ve already conquered. You’re supposed to be able to change tribe allegiances as you progress through the Tribe War, but it might just be in relation to the side you’re already on. What you can’t do is change the path you’re on, at least not easily. You can smack the villager and get the dark points, then ally with Myriad if you want. The choice you made at the ruined village - to “leave you to your fate” or help - influences which tribe the game tries pushing you toward. Your choice determines which ending the game flags: Myriad for saving the Tree of Life, Jagni for destroying it. Once you exit Bunker 101, Biomutant makes you pick a tribe to ally with. The Biomutant good ending saves the Tree and lets the world and all its inhabitants flourish. Instead, you’re paving the way for a future governed by evolution because dark isn’t “bad” in Biomutant. The Biomutant bad ending means the Tree and those too weak to live without its help die, though Biomutant doesn’t chastise you for it. Alternatively, you can ally with those that wish for a cruel, darker world and let the World Eaters do their work. You can choose to destroy the World Eaters, which is the Light choice. Biomutant Endingsīiomutant endings revolve around how you deal with the Tree of Life. Our Biomutant endings guide points you in the right direction for the outcome you want. There are two main Biomutant endings, but the Tribe War and the choices made during it will affect how that ending unfolds - sort of. ![]() We invite you to use the padlets to borrow or contribute ideas, strategies, or tools for adapting your practicum courses and assignments. Two days later I paid US$39.99 + sales taxes for the Mac Private License and I created a catalogue for my main 5TB external USB drive overnight. The developers even offer a “sidegrade” discount for people making this transition. Moving from Media Pro to NeoFinder was a doddle. The question popped into my head “why keep trying to make Media Pro work when this is available?” All of my pictures have their metadata intact and I have tried hard over the years to get my captions and keywords as good as I can make them. ![]() I made a quick catalogue from about 20,000 old images and I was shocked by how easy it was to use and how good the searches it allowed were. They offer a free trial and I had some time on my hands and so I downloaded and installed it. I thought to myself “how come I have never heard of it?” A quick search on the web brought up their site and I realised that this was a newer name for the old CD Finder application that I tried and quite liked half a dozen years or more ago. Camera Bits have been saying for years that “it is coming” but I have decided to look around for other options.Ī few months ago I was reading a thread on a Facebook photographers’ group that mentioned NeoFinder. Phase One’s decision to stop supporting it has made me look around for an alternative.īeing a long-time fan of Photo Mechanic I have been holding out and waiting for them to bring out a new version of the application that forms the core of my workflow with a cataloguing function. I have had Media Pro in its various forms for a very long time now and it has served me well. The idea of having an application that does so much and that is effectively free (as I subscribe to Photoshop CC anyway) is a good one but every time I have given it a go, I have decided that it isn’t as convenient at Media Pro as a catalogue. Well that’s not entirely true every time I look at Lightroom one of the things that attracts me to it is the cataloguing function that it brings with it. Cataloguing my archive is definitely something that I haven’t given enough thought to. Like most photographers my workflow has developed over the years and there are some bits of it that are more to do with convenience and habit than they are to do with efficiency. ![]() ![]() You’ll then unfold, as this will be a guiding crease.Ģ. Things get even a little trickier if we consider the shoe width, and it goes without saying that the shoe sizing varies to some extent from manufacturer to manufacturer and different countries use the different measurement units. Both men and women can wear the same 11 shoe size, but any standard show brand will have the man shoe at least half inch longer than the women’s’. The same thing applies to a man and woman’s shoe sizing. But do the actual length or width measure the same for both the shoes? I decided Personal Capital wasn’t for me because of these limitations. I noticed that it doesn’t seem to look at investment values retrospectively, so it won’t do a good job at tracking net worth if you enter backdated transactions instead of entering them day-of. Personal Capital is more oriented towards investment tracking, and has some nice capabilities there, but seems very limited in tracking manually-entered transactions. Maybe I need to move to a workflow where payments are automated so I don’t really need to actively keep track… ![]() I have a lot of credit cards, so tracking the bills is key functionality for me, and something I’d have to do elsewhere if my personal finance software doesn’t support it. I’m somewhat mystified that competing solutions like Simplifi and Banktivity don’t seem to import or display credit card payments due, and only support setting up reoccurring bills with predictable amounts. It’s worth noting that one thing Mint does well that none of the other software seemed to support is keeping track of upcoming credit card bills. Overall, I liked Simplifi more for transaction tracking, so I decided to drop Mint from consideration. I know there’s an ad-free version, and I definitely would have upgraded to it if I decided to stick with Mint, but the initial experience left a bad taste. I also didn’t like marketing-heavy approach, with lots of upsells and advertisements throughout the UI. Since I have private investments and I refuse to hand over banking credentials to third parties, this made it feel like a bad fit. ![]() It seems very heavily oriented towards transaction downloading and doesn’t have good capabilities for tracking accounts that it can’t connect to. Mint seems pretty decent for transaction tracking, but it had a few downsides that made me drop it from consideration. I suspect I could have worked around the workflow YNAB tries to impose and made it work for me, but it didn’t seem worth the friction of circumventing the workflow, especially at a relatively high price point. I’m more interested in understanding how my spending breaks down than managing cash flow, which isn’t a concern at all. It’s very focused on budgeting, which is not really what I want (and actually runs counter to my desire to relax a little bit about spending money). While I admire the polished interface, I found the workflow didn’t work for me. YNAB has a devoted following and comes with many online recommendations, so I was enthusastic to try it. I’m mainly focused on tracking spending (not budgeting), but if an app can partially or completely replace the asset/liability spreadsheet by tracking investments as well, that’s worth exploring as well. I also am looking for a good mobile app where I can enter transactions on the go - this was awkward with the spreadsheet setup so it’s one of the things I want to improve. I'm a Mac user, so for packages that have native desktop application, they need a solid Mac version. One of the most important is that I am NOT willing to share any deposit account or brokerage credentials with a third party, so software that depends on this to work well is out of the running (granting data access without providing credentials is okay). I thought I would post some notes here on my journey in case they are helpful to others. Some of the apps can also track investments, which could be useful to me as well. I'm also hoping that automating this tracking will let me become a little more hands-off and relaxed about routine spending, without giving up visibility. In an effort to simplify my life, I recently looked at several personal finance apps that can help automate this process by automatically downloading and categorizing credit card transactions. Most transactions require me to manually update both spreadsheets. I also have a second spreadsheet that tracks assets and liabilities (i.e. This habit stuck, and I’ve been pretty religious about tracking transactions. In this game, you will see the events that lead to the neighbor’s tragic downfall, and the history of his family. It feels like a game designed to garner traffic online, one for people to complain and commiserate about - something that seems absurd, but if your kids like to watch streamers, this will make sense. But the game is remarkably vague about what its puzzles are, how the controls work, and even the story itself. It's plausible that impatient players will get no further than the front door and never see confusing and amusing parts of the house like its rollercoaster and water-filled room. There's only a basic tutorial, so you're thrown in with little sense of how to even make progress at all. In other words, you can intentionally be caught somewhere far away from where you intend to enter next time, and get on your merry way.īut doing that isn't exactly desirable. Although the game boasts a formidable artificial intelligence, all this seems to really mean is the neighbor will hang out where he last found you. You get to keep everything in your inventory and you get to try again, immediately. That is, in a game hinging entirely on your trying to get into your neighbor's basement, even when your neighbor finds you, all that really happens is a few additional traps are laid. The main problem with Hello Neighbor is it feels primarily designed for YouTube streamers than for an average player: The controls stick, the neighbor's sneakiness is meant to provoke outlandish streamer reactions for people to comment about online, and even "losing" doesn't matter. The fact that there isn't a whole lot going on isn't necessarily an outright dismissal of its gameplay. This stealth action game proves that a clever concept isn't nearly enough to provide engaging or immersive play. |
